Portfolio 1 : Intro to Portfolio, Observational Drawing + Still Life
Portfolio 1 : Intro to Observational Drawing + Still Life (Take Portfolio 2, 3 + 4 after this program)
Description: Artists will learn the foundational skills needed to create a portfolio for NYC Art High Schools: observational drawing and pencil techniques. They will learn the difference between drawing from memory, imagination, photographs and life. Using pencils, colored pencils, mini erasers and different grades of paper they will learn warm up exercises, how to draw objects, and how to arrange and draw overlapping objects in a still life format. More importantly they will gain confidence from learning these skills, how to practice them, and how to be kind to themselves during the process in a rigorous, fun and supportive environment.
Important Info:PAW’s full portfolio program is comprised of 4 segments (Portfolio 1, 2, 3 + 4 ) meant to be taken consecutively in Spring of 2025, followed by PAW’s 8th Grade Advanced Portfolio in the fall of 2025 if needed. Portfolio 4 is concurrent with Portfolio 3, during the same weeks, but on Wednesdays. It will also be available in the fall and possibly this summer. I recommend that you take all four parts of the program in order since the skills build cumulatively.

Missed Classes:No make up classes or refunds are available due to the short run of the program and because each class builds on the previous one. Please look at your calendar and confirm the dates before signing up. I will email students make-up work to do art home if they have to miss a class. If there is an unavoidable emergency that makes it impossible for the student to attend many classes I will discuss remedy with parents on a case by case basis.
